ABN AMRO
Scenario
IT Department Assistance
Situation
From the mid 1990s ABN AMRO's London investment banking business experienced sustained growth and change. Within the Fixed income Division, the IT Department was handling a rapidly increasing and volatile workload as well as addressing the advent of European Monetary Union and Millennium compliance. ABN AMRO recognised that its IT management processes and structure needed further development to meet this major challenge.
Charteris Role
As Charteris was able to contribute significant experience of working with IT service organisations, especially in investment banking, we were appointed to work with senior operations and IT management to effect the necessary changes.
With Charteris guidance and support, the IT Department developed and implemented a rolling plan for IT support services and strengthened its own organisation, resources, and processes for service provision and management. Charteris introduced an IT resourcing function and a more effective approach to managing IT contractors.
Solution
Significant improvements in the IT services delivered to the business and in IT staffing and cost control were achieved within months. The IT planning and management processes which Charteris helped to develop now equip the Division's IT function to meet the ongoing challenge of supporting a fast-evolving business.
Martin Smith commented, "Charteris not only made a real difference, but, a year later, the difference has lasted."
