SWX Swiss Exchange - Quotematch Programme Management Support

Scenario

Programme Management advice and support.

Situation

By 2004 SWX Swiss Exchange, the Swiss Stock Exchange based in Zurich, needed to enhance its trading system capacity significantly in order to enable high performance trading in securitised derivatives. SWX also needed a corresponding upgrade to its market surveillance system.

To achieve these objectives SWX needed to initiate and carry through a major programme of systems acquisition and development, and associated business change. This was to involve not only significant modifications to SWX’ established technology, but also the incorporation of third party software for the new trading platform and surveillance system. For SWX, this was by far its largest such undertaking since it developed its original trading systems.

Charteris role

From the start, Charteris provided advice and practical support to the Programme Director, guiding SWX from programme initiation and set-up through to development. Charteris then continued as an advisor on programme management and remained as a member of the Steering Committee for the full sixteen month duration of the programme.

Solution

In November 2005 SWX announced the successful launch, on schedule, of the new trading system (“Quotematch”) for securitised derivatives.

The Programme Director, Lee Hodgkinson, said: “Charteris’ guidance was essential for getting the Quotematch Programme underway and helping us to steer it to a successful conclusion”.
