Skills review and training in IT design
Situation
The client had worked with Charteris' associate company
The Mandelbrot Set for a number of years and had been involved
in a wide range of projects. The client's IT department
decided that there was a requirement for additional training
in best practice when designing a Visual Basic application.
Charteris Role
The consultants analysed the training requirement, then designed
and implemented a solution.
Solution
First, the consultants undertook a study to determine the level
of design expertise within the department. This concluded
that a generic "Design Guide" covering the generation
of three-tier object-oriented designs for Visual Basic,
would be an appropriate solution, and it was documented
using UML.
The Design Guide was designed and developed, together with
appropriate introductory training for project managers
and developers. The training was then delivered to the
development staff, and the client confirmed that the new
training had completely satisfied their requirement.
