Technology-Enabled Change
Effective technology-enabled change in the public sector requires a special blend of expertise and experience. Since the earliest days of e-government, Charteris has been enabling the modernisation and re-engineering of service delivery to ensure that information can be shared easily and acted upon quickly.
From health to criminal justice, modernisation of service delivery is high on the government's agenda. The introduction of e-government is essential to these reforms, but this means more than just making public services available online. If citizens and businesses are to be persuaded to interact with government electronically, government needs to re-engineer the way it delivers services and this means wholesale change.
One aspect of this change, which runs across public services, is the need to share information and to act on it more quickly. In criminal justice this led to the setting up of CJIT, where Charteris has been instrumental in the introduction of a Criminal Justice Exchange. The Bichard Inquiry into the Soham case has increased the public's awareness of the need for joined-up handling of information.
We are experts in the implementation of a leading health and social care information management system for local authorities and Primary Care Trusts. Charteris is also supporting the setting up of a National Children's Database in response to the Government's Every Child Matters green paper. We are helping National Security organisations share information more fully so that actionable intelligence quickly reaches those who need to act on it.
Much of what we do in this area springs from our involvement in the Government Gateway, one of the early building blocks of electronic government in the UK.
